HISTORY OF THE PROJECT

The Kishwaukee River Ecosystem Parnership listed fish passage at the Belvidere Dam a priority project in the Strategic Plan for Habitat Restoration and Conservation of the Kishwaukee River Watershed. In 2006 the Belvidere Park District took the lead role by applying for and receiving a $107,500 grant from the Conservation 2000 Program. The Scope of the grant was to fund the Hydraulic and Sediment modeling by the USGS and hire a firm to take that data and provide summary costs and feasibility of 4 passage alternatives at the Belvidere Dam, Do nothing, Partial Removal, Fish Bypass Channel and Rock Ramp. The Grant has concluded and you can view the Belvidere Dam Fish Passage Report here or pick up a printed copy at the Belvidere Park District Office for more information on fish passage at the Belividere Dam.
